BARDEJOV
Bardejov is a town with more than 770 years old history. The town of Bardejov has been writting history since 1241. Its valuable currency is the monuments created duringthe Middle Ages. The town lay on a trade junction and was preferred by the Hungarian rules. It has also gained many privileges, especially the right to hold an annual fair, warehouse law and capital law and more. The town with historical center created by uniquely preserved urban complex with a structure of highly developed medieval town.
Fortification system of Bardejov was in medieval times know as one of the most perfect in Slovakia. Curently, it belongs to the best preserved urban defense system in Europe.
In 2002 started a restoration of the Town Hall square, copying the findings from the 16th century. For the successful reconstruction of the historical core of the old town, Bardejov was awarded European Prize - Golden Medal by the UNESCO ICOMOS International Executive Committee in 1986. On December 2, 2000, the Town of Bardejov was enrolled as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
